AMTRAK STATION LAND USE PLANNING

Exploring Transit-Oriented Urban Development for Passenger Rail

Working with local planners and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, the AECOM/Rhodeside & Harwell team developed land use plans for areas within a half-mile radius around six existing and future Amtrak stations along an I-95/I-64 passenger rail corridor. The land use analysis and planning process addressed transit service, regional development patterns (rural, suburban, and urban redevelopment), local zoning and comprehensive plans, market conditions and expectations, and transit-oriented development objectives in order to develop a 2030 vision for each community.
