Enlivening an Urban Block in the Federal Core

To complement its ambitious modernization and expansion of the Capital Gallery building in southwest Washington, D.C., Boston Properties selected Rhodeside & Harwell to create a new, pedestrian-friendly plaza featuring a series of unique gardens. The plaza, which borders a popular ground-level retail arcade, is conceived as a sculptural and unifying element that is lifted above the city streets as a distinctive civic amenity. The design features extensive new landscaping, blue granite seat walls, and on-site stormwater bio-retention.
