17th Street, NW, Streetscape
Enhancing a Neighborhood Corridor
The 17th Street, NW, Streetscape project for the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) addressed comprehensive improvements to this busy residential and commercial corridor. DDOT objectives included enhanced pedestrian and bicycle access and safety; improved vehicle flow; and the addition of amenities such as landscaping, lighting, and street furniture. The project involved extensive community outreach, mapping, a site inventory and analysis, and design. Rhodeside & Harwell’s solutions ranged from upgrades to traffic signals and the addition of a bicycle lane to the preservation and protection of existing street trees and design concepts for seasonal displays.
