Enhancing Security in a Dense Urban Setting
The 1.5 million-square-foot Harry S. Truman Building, home to the U.S. Department of State, is the third largest federal structure in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Rhodeside & Harwell developed a concept plan for the perimeter landscape and streetscape in order to meet new security criteria. Recommendations addressed parking, travel lanes, operable and fixed barriers, perimeter barriers that protect existing trees and add new plantings, and new entry structures and plazas.
